DIY Superhero 5th Birthday party

My son has asked for a firefighter birthday party for the last 3 years… he’s only turning 5! So you can imagine my absolute delight when I asked him what type of birthday party he wanted this year and his answer was a SUPERHERO PARTY! A fresh new theme and I don’t need to worry that it will look or feel the same as the previous year!  The possibilities were endless!  But them I started to panic as I had to start completely from scratch.  Needing to find SVG’s, costumes, and make the decoration. However, it was totally worth it! It ended up being one of the best parties we have had. Below are photo’s of the costumes, games and decorations (including links for how I made them!)

Turning into Superhero's

First party game!

I find nothing helps get kids in the party mood more than dressing the part!  So our first “game” of the party was having all of the kids turn into their favourite superhero’s. We had each kid come up one at a time and choose a cape and mask (which they were able to take home!).

How did I make this station?

I turned the kids play kitchen around (but you can do this on the wall too if you prefer!) and added 3M hooks to hold the capes (these ones – I was able to put a few capes on each) and masks up (these small ones) which easily come off after the party!

Tip! Have the party leaders dress in capes too so the little kids can easily tell them apart from the other grown ups!

Superhero party games

Web Practice

Every superhero needs to practice their web aiming skills so we set up a fun target to let them practice!  I used our sports net as the backdrop and then added Iron-on vinyl that I cut with my Cricut so that the game was contained. We used silly string which I heard is super messy (spoiler – it is!) so this was super helpful for the party!

Obstacle Course

We set up an obstacle course so that two superhero’s could run the course side by side. We had a kids tunnel to crawl through, pillars to twirl around and foam blocks to crash through. It was the biggest hit of the party!  Every kid loved running it more than once!

Superhero signs!

I used some Bristol board from dollarama and some iron on vinyl with my Cricut to make some super cool signs using ‘BadaBoom’ font that I got from dafont.

Backdrop

Posting a super fun backdrop that the kids can get in front of to show off their coolest superhero moves is such a fun addition to the party!

Loot bags

I wanted to make superhero loot bags that matched the party theme and so I decided to use my scrap HTV that I had WAY too much of to create personalized loot bags!  While this might seem like it was a lot of effort it was actually a super fun project I was able to do with my son to get him excited for the party and it used up my scrap stash!  I included superhero stickers, some treats for the kids and a few little superhero items.

We have made an Amazon list that shows all of the key things we bought to make this superhero party AWESOME! You can check out it out here to get inspiration!
