Magical Unicorn Fairy Birthday Party: How to Plan the Perfect Celebration!

Through the eyes of a 5 year old, life is filled with Magic, rainbows, and Unicorns…so naturally my daughter begged me for a Magical Unicorn Fairy Birthday Party! No small feat…there were a lot of heavy hitting decorations that needed to be made and magic to be synthesized. Luckily, as any crafty mom knows, we have lots of tricks up our crafty sleeves and this party was no exception!

Unicorn Fairy Extravaganza

Combining Unicorns and Fairies proved to be a seriously colourful affair. Rainbows, flowers, fairy wings, glitter tulle, and a “Unicorn stable” turned the backyard into a magical oasis and colour explosion!

I was able to use a lot of things that I had from the playroom and also the sewing cupboard (see the shiny satin table cloth that was under the party favours haha).

Once the stage was set, the rest of the magic fell into place.

Along the fence, I had set up Fairy wings so that each friend could choose their magical outfit for the day.

Unicorn Party Snacks

Cupcakes in ice cream cones

One of the things that I have found our kids love the most is when they are able to be part of the creation process and when it came to the snacks and cupcakes I took that into consideration.

I baked funfetti cupcakes INTO the ice cream cones! This was something I recently learned was possible and it is definitely my new favourite party addition!

I took vanilla icing, put it in a ziplock, cut the corner and then used it to make simple swirls on too of the cupcakes cones! We let the kids choose which colour sprinkles they all wanted on their cones, to make them feel like they were part of the creation process.

The benefit of the cones was that there was ZERO cake cutting, each kid could just hold the cones, and there was virtually no cleanup. Plus they looked cool!

The other fun creation snack station was the popcorn bar where there were individual containers of popcorn for each party goer, and then lots of different toppings to add to their popcorn to make the ultimate snack magic! We did crushed up oreo and white chocolate chips coloured as Unicorn Licorice!

The kids loved it and its an easy  ice breaking activity!

Fairy Wings and Butterfly scavenger hunt

For the main event and part of their party favour, we had a butterfly hunt! The friends all chose their fairy wings, and then set off on an adventure to find the butterflies that the “fairies” had hidden around the garden. It was honestly such a fun activity and they went racing around collecting the butterfly stickers! By the end they all had butterflies up and down their arms!

Unicorn Loot bags

For the loot bags, I got these cute little canvas tote bags, found a great image in design space for iron on unicorn and hearts decal,  personalized it with their names, and then added some stickers, a treat, and a unicorn keychain inside!

It was nice and simple, but reusable. I love giving something practical that the kids can use later and remember all the fun they had!

Overall, the unicorn and fairy extravaganza was definitely a success…it was a beautiful day filled with smiles and magic!
