Cricut joy in a travel bag with accessories

How to Travel with a Cricut Joy

My brother recently got married…and of course as the designated family crafter, I made custom wedding favours! Here was the catch…he was getting married in Georgia and I was making the Cricut projects in Canada!

Jo and I figured out how I could travel with my Cricut and the precut vinyl to assemble the favours in the USA once I arrived.

Here’s how I did it!

What I needed to pack:

For the wedding favours, I was making custom welcome tote bags using my Cricut Joy.  In these welcome totes we put tons of different snacks, the information they needed while their and drinks to make their trip easy! The only hitch was that t save time I printed and needed to transport enough cut vinyl for 80 bags…. YIKES.  So I ended up needing to pack

How I packed it all! Including my Cricut Joy and Easy Press Mini

Jo and I precut the designs using HTV and then re-rolled the vinyl (obviously did not weed the designs) and put it INSIDE the cardboard roll that it came with! This way the designs were protected since the Cricut cardboard rolls are basically indestructible!!

When I packed my suitcase, I laid the cardboard rolls along the sides of my suitcase and then packed the clothes.

To transport my precious Cricut Joy, I found a perfect travel case on Amazon! It is lightweight, has many compartments, and fantastic reviews.

I was able to not only get my Joy in there, but my EasyPress Mini as well!! It was the perfect compact fit and I could easily carry it onto the plane.

In the travel case, I also put my 6″ cutting mat, my card matcard stocktransfer tape sized for projects I knew I would make once I was in the USA, pens to make cards, and various tools (scraper, weeding tools, spatula tool).

The case has holders for pretty much everything you could need. I did pack some extra rolls of vinyl in my suitcase among my clothes as well as the EasyPress mat… but having everything compactly mobile in the travel case was PERFECT.

Flying with my Cricut Joy

I was a bit nervous to fly with my Cricut Joy, given it has a curious shape and the weeding tools are quite sharp. I was worried that if a security agent didn’t know what a Cricut was…that it would complicate getting through!

Throughout my trip, I took a total of 6 flights with my Cricut…and on 5 of those flights, not a single agent gave me any hassle. On my last flight, the agent flagged the machine and I thought for sure it would be confiscated…but she checked it out, and then said, “Since this is a large electronic, take it out of the case next time.” No problemo!!!

Overall, traveling with my Cricut Joy was so easy! The travel case was so clutch! Definitely worth more than the $30 it cost to buy it!!

Since then, I’ve used my Cricut Joy travel case so many times and take my Cricut to friends and families houses for craft sessions!!! Just last weekend, the girls in my family had a crafting girls weekend and of course I used my handy dandy travel case!! I put the travel case in a tote with vinyl’s and was able to carry everything I needed in one bag.

Have you ever traveled with your Cricut?? What was your experience like and do you have any tips or tricks to share?!

Happy Crafting!
