Buying a Cricut in Canada: Cricut Access, is it worth paying the monthly fee?

So many new Cricut users ask me about the Cricut Access subscription – Is it really worth paying the monthly fee?? And every time I always answer the same way, it depends on HOW you plan to use the machine.  I was that person who signed up for the free month absolutely planning on cancelling once the month was up. However, I actually found it was incredibly useful. For me Cricut access is worth it and below I talk about how I use it (and the benefits I find – not just Cricuts!) and the COST so that you can see if Cricut access is worth it for you.

What is Cricut Access?
Do you need it for Design space?

No, you do not need Cricut Access to use Cricut Design Space. It is an optional subscription that allows you access to thousands of images (including their new editable images!) and hundreds of fonts (including writing fonts), and over a thousand ready to make projects. They also have a Cricut community which is akin to Pinterest (user generated content) however you can launch the actual project with all of the images and fonts! So no tracking down an image you saw!

How do you plan to use your Cricut machine?

The way I see it is, there are a few different types of Cricut users.

1) The intricate user who does fewer projects but they are very detailed (think 2 hour weeding marathon).  Many times this user ends up buying images off of places like Etsy. In this case, Cricut access may not be worth it

2) The everyday user (like me!) who loves making decorations for around the house, gifts and everything the kids ask for (literally everything).  Cricut Access absolutely makes sense.

The Cricut Access Benefits:

The everyday benefit:

I don’t have much free time. Like at all. So I find it worth paying the small fee to save time.  Anytime my son asks for something (like having an owl on his water bottle) or my daughters wants more stickers, I am not hunting down free svg’s and seeing if it is what  they want. A simple search provides plenty of options to choose from.  Time saved means more time to craft!

Cricut Access Standard:

  • 10% off purchases (including machines!)
    • PRO TIP! If you are planning on buying a machine get at least a one month subscription to Cricut Access as the discount alone means you are saving money!
  • $10 off coupon for cricut.com every 3 months! That’s right, 4 coupons a year! which includes free shipping! It’s literally FREE materials!
  • Cricut exclusive deals: This is one of the most little known benefits that is one of my favourites! Cricut posts a select number of really amazing deals that are only available to Cricut access members. I’m talking 50%+ off things like blades or mats (it changes all the time…) and if you pair that savings with the $10 off coupon you get the savings are unreal.
  • Thousands of images on seemingly every topic
  • Hundreds of fonts (including writing fonts which is great if you have a maker)
  • Thousands of ready made projects
  • Priority calling to member care (honestly I love this part – kids nap time goes too quickly especially if you are stuck on hold!)

Cricut Access Premium:

  • Everything listed above PLUS:
  • 20% off materials
    • PRO TIP! If you pair this with a coupon code/sales then you can always buy Cricut brand materials for the price of the off brand! Always…
  • FREE economy shipping on any order over $50 (this is great for Canadians and really the reason I upgrade to premium!) Want to know about my shipping experience from Cricut.com? Read about it here!

Consider the options and cost:

There are three ways you can subscribe to Cricut Access:

  1. Standard Monthly: This way you can see if Cricut Access if right for you and cancel at anytime ($12.99/month CAD)
  2. Standard Annual: You get a discount if you pre-pay the year access. This is a good option if you know you are going to be paying for it. (C$129.99/year which is C$10.83/month).
  3. Premium Annual: Works out to the same price as paying monthly (slightly cheaper!) with the added benefit of 20% off materials and free shipping over $50! (so amazing for Canadians! This alone makes it worth it for me to do premium) C$149.99/year
If you want to sign up and you are Canadian – make sure you sign up on the Canadian site and not the regular site (Find it here!).

For me signing up for the Cricut Access Subscription is worth it.  I also choose to pay annually for the Premium membership since it is cheaper than monthly and it means I don’t ever have to worry about shipping when ordering from the Cricut Canada website. I also really like the new benefit of the $10 coupons 4 times as year as it allows me to pair it with some super awesome sales so I can stock up on materials!
