We’d be Lion if I said we didn’t have an elephant-astic time!!! SAFARI DAY WAS A HIT!! We grabbed stuffed animals and hid them outside, dressed them up in themed outfits, cranked up the animal themed music… and let them loose into the WILD! Read below to see all the details to create your own safari adventure in your backyard

Outfits
Every good theme day starts with a super fun outfit! We used our Cricut machine to make matching t-shirts for the kids which they absolutely loved. We also made simple binoculars using the empty vinyl rolls left over from making the shirts (quick tutorial video below) and topped it off with some fun monkey hats from the dollar store. We dressed up in Khakis too as their Safari guide for the day!
Movement
We enjoyed starting the day off with some animal themed movement exercises like:
Hopping like a kangaroo
Stretching tall like a giraffe
Slithering like a snake
Running fast like a cheetah
Animal Search
Next the children were sent around the backyard to look for hidden animals using their binoculars. We hid stuffed animals around the backyard for this (and toss in the washing machine afterwards!) part of the day and it was by FAR the kids favourite.
Snack time
With all the running around we of course needed to refuel. NO better way to do it then an on-theme snack! We made a few different kinds of roll-ups (PB&J, cream cheese, etc) and created a “snake”.
Sensory Bin cool down
Safari Day Sensory Bin! After running around, it was time to settle down…our mud sensory bin was the perfect activity. We love our Rubbermaid 23” large clear bin, which is so versatile! For more ideas and info on how to make a sensory bin check out our post!
Safari Sign
We took it over the top with adding some Cricut made crafts to add to the decor. This Safari sign post was a super big hit as they got to guess the animals by the animal print on the sign.
